I pulled the back of my upper leg 6 yrs ago. i didn't go to therapy. now when i workout it gets extra tense and i'm not as flexible. is it hopeless?

Have hope: You need to stretch hamstrings and calves multiple times per day. I recommend 3-5 times stretching each day. You don't need to get crazy about how much you stretch each time, just a single hurdler's stretch and calf stretch on each leg held for no less than 30 seconds and no more than 90 seconds. Hamstring and achilles tightness are hard to overcome, but not impossible.
