Daughter lost ability to swallow 9 days ago. gi docs can't find cause & says she's in starvation ketosis but won't give her feed tube, only glucose iv. is that safe? atl area docs you can recommend?

Correct approach...: Starvation ketosis is a derangement of the blood chemistry making it too acidic. If the patient receives intravenous or gastric tube feedings before these imbalances are corrected, they could experience re-feeding syndrome which can cause life threatening electrolyte imbalances, especially hypophosphatemia. Any patient who has not eaten in greater than five days is at risk.
