ALL COLITIS NOT SAME: It depend which kind of colitis you have it could be ulcerative colitis or crohn disease, or idiopathic or antibiotic induced colitis each has different etiology, treatment, diet and prevention program not knowing what kind you have will make it hard to answer in general colitis will come back if the patient gut exposed to the same factors that caused it in the first place.
