Chest pain and cough: First, as you might imagine, stop smoking. Second, an upper respiratory infection may affect the lung tissue itself, but also the covering of the lung--pleura. If that gets inflamed it may be one focal are of the chest and is usually associated with even the movement of breathing or other movement. It's treated with Motrin or advil (ibuprofen) and should go away. If not, a chest x-ray and exam is in order.
