Cherish every day: The course of any cancer is unpredictable. If this is tumor in the chest surrounding the subclavian vein, and the tumor cannot be made to shrink by chemotherapy or radiation, it is likely that it is time for comfort-measures only. If this is a blood clot in the vein, it may be treatable. However much more time you have with grandma, i hope you will spend it well and let her know you are grateful.

D/w oncologist: Encourage your grandmother to talk and discuss with her oncologist re-the problem . She will need to have an ultrasound on the right arm to make sure she does not have blood clots. Some other condition also can give pain and swelling. Her oncologist would be the best person to talk to and give you the answer. For you, if you are there for her, to support her - that would be helpful.
