Don't touch the eye: Pink eye (conjunctivitis) can be highly contagious by direct or indirect contact. It is usually viral in adults and has to run its course. If you have to wipe the eye, discard tissues immediately and use handwashing or alcohol cleansers. OTC eye drops and antibiotic eye drops don't usually help, although are often used. Anti-inflammatory drops can help symptomatically, prescribed by eye doctors.
