Acute vs Chronic DVT: Postthrombotic syndrome is under recognized ; common sequela of DVT if treated with blood thinners alone. Anticoagulants dont actively dissolve the clot, but just prevent new clots from forming. Clot eventually dissolves, but the vein can become damaged in meantime. Mounting evidence suggests that clot removal w catheter directed lysis improves quality of life in selected cases of dvt. Consult ir.
