Not dangerous: Resting heart rates in the 40's are common in young people, especially those who exercise regularly, and does not necessarily mean there is an autonomic nerve problem. Either way, heart rates in the 40's at rest without symptoms are rarely dangerous and rarely need any treatment. This is usually a normal finding. Dysautonomia can be tough to treat but treatment is for symptoms, not heart rate.
