PT: There are different causes for nerve impingement that include a herniated disc or bony spurs in the neck. Your doctor or a neurologist/neurosurgeon can tell by examining you which nerve(s) are involved. An mri scan is also very important in determining what is causing the pinching. Physical therapy can help with the pain. Sometimes, patients need surgery if the disc or compression is large.
