Yes: Fibroids are benign (non cancerous) tumors of the uterus that are associated with painful, heavy periods. This can be treated with medications that are hormonal or non-hormonal, and they are also commonly treated surgically by removing the fibroid (s) or the entire uterus.

Benign condition: Uterine fibroids are benign smooth muscle tumors that grow in the uterus. If it is felt to be the cause of problems such as heavy or irregular bleeding, pain, pressure those symptoms can be treated, or the fibroids surgically removed. Many women do not have any symptoms from their fibroids, in which case no treatment is needed.
