Wisdom tooth: "unplugged"? Patients should be seen within the first week after extraction of any tooth. A common reason for pain after extraction is dry socket, which is not an infection but requires treatment only the doctor can render. But antibiotics are not "pain medication" and pain at 5 days out should be seen and evaluated for more serious problems like infection, jaw fracture, by an oral surgeon.

Call surgeon: Probably has a dry socket, where the clot has washed out and now bone is exposed to the oral environment. It has to be packed with a medicated gauze, which will give relief and promote healing. Please call the surgeon immediately.
