A member asked:

What is the main difference between celiac sprue and celiac disease?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

None: Celiac disease and celiac sprue are essentially the same thing. Celiac sprue is an older term when the symptoms were thought to mainly be gastrointestinal. Doctors have moved to using the term celiac disease in more modern times to acknowledge that there are so many more body systems affected and constitutes a systemic disease.
