Is there a difference between celiac disease and leaky gut?

Celiac: Celiac and leaky gut are two entirely different entities. Celiac refers to an auto immune problem of the small intestine. People with celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten because they develop auto antibodies that damage the intestinal lining. A leaky gut is merely a descriptive term that is nonspecific and not scientific, but can refer to the process of intestinal contents crossing into the blood.

What is leaky gut?: Celiac disease is a disease in which antibodies to wheat proteins destroy the cells the lining of the gut. Besides abdominal symptoms, a "herpes-like" rash, called dermatitis herpetiformis may occur. Avoidance of wheat controls most patients. Intolerance of other wheat products may mimic some symptoms. Leaky gut is ill defined. See www.Webmd.Com/digestive-disorders/ features/leaky-gut-syndrome.
