A member asked:

Hi docs, would my children have vitiligo if both parents have it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily: Vitiligo is very rare; only about 1% of the world's population has it. We really don't know what causes vitiligo, but it does appear to be at least partially genetic. 20-30% of patients with vitiligo have a family member with the disorder, but we we don't know enough to predict if a child will get it, even if both parents have it.
