A member asked:

Can you tell me if i quit smoking, will i be just as healthy as people who have never smoked?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on whether: You have already caused damage, but you will be far healthier than you would be if you continued smoking. If there is already damage, it will begin to heal, but healing depends on how much damage was already done. If there is emphysema, that does not heal, but may improve somewhat. Damage to the heart starts improving immediately, and after 10 years your risks will become average. Good luck; quit!
