Holter monitor: If you experience frequent and bothersome palpitations, you should document what your heart rhythm is at the time of your symptoms by wearing a holter monitor for 24hours. You may be having benign premature beats which are made worse by caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, stress and anxiety. Your md can order this test. Palpitations can occur in the presence of a normal blood pressure.

Other symptoms?: Palpitations can range from a single "skipped" beat to several rapid beats occurring for several seconds or longer. Premature beats are most common. Palpitatons can be associated with chest pain, dizziness, passing out, or shortness of breath, all of which should prompt a visit to the emergency room. In addition, seek emergency attention for rapid palpitations lasting more than 30 seconds.
