Strange: This could be a product of insufficient breathing while sleeping. I would recommend seeing a dr. Whom may refer you for a sleep study.

Can be due to GERD: And or sleep apnea with low night oxygen during spells when you don't breathe. I recommend a visit to a sleep doc and then to an ENT doc if necessary. Best wishes.
