A member asked:

If a baby has jaundice and apnea at birth, will a baby keep having episodes if they were born with hsv or will it go away?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Hsv needs a thorough evaluation and testing to ascertain whether the infant is at risk for disseminated herpes. Iv Acyclovir is often given aggressively for a longer period if indications of infection are apparent. Disseminated herpes can affect the brain and liver-sometimes accounting for the apnea/jaundice.
