General rules: The transfer of mothers immune antibodies to baby may create a transient partial immunity that is hard to pin down. Variations must take into account placental health,length of pregnancy & mothers undefined levels. In general the immunity is considered possibly protective for a few months, likely minimal after 6 mo. Mothers with recurrent HSV can infect their vaginally delivered newborns
