A 21-year-old male asked:

i quit smoking cannabis? since 4th day i have had troath discomfort and pleghm for 2 days. could this be cancer? im just 21. is it just paranoia?

Probably not: When you smoke (cannabis, cigarettes, etc) the little hairs (cilia) in your respiratory tract get paralyzed. Thus, they don't move the secretions out of your lungs. Now that you've stopped, those cilia are "waking up" and getting rid of the secretions left in your lungs. This is the same reason smokers have a higher chance of pneumonia.

Right! Most of the epithelium (from the nose to the bronchi) is covered in pseudo stratified columnar ciliated epithelial cells that get affected by smoke irritants.

Not necessarily: Family history - mother's and father's, and sibling's - can suggest a predilection for ear infections, but it is only a tendency, not definite. If there is a family history, monitor closely.
A 21-year-old member asked:

I'm a man, should I get human papilloma virus vaccine to avoid genital warts and cancer?

4 doctor answers9 doctors weighed in
Dr. Michael Klein
Family Medicine 21 years experience
Yes: The vaccine has been approved by the fda for ages 9-26 in men. The biggest advantage of the vaccine is to reduce the spread of the virus to women, which can be aided by reducing the number of men with the virus. Male genital cancer is much rarer than female cervical cancer, so the major benefit is preventing some types of warts an spread to women.

A 49-year-old female asked:

4 months ago I had total knee replacements(both) and I still have swelling, burning, sharp needle like pains is this normal? What are the signs if one is allergic to the metal in the knee replacement (both)

Dr. Andrew DeGruccio
Orthopedic Surgery 29 years experience
Can be normal: Some pain and swelling can be normal at this stage. May take close to 1 full year for complete resolution with good therapy. Signs of metal allergy include persistent pain and swelling, skin rashes, including hives , and x-ray findings of component loosening. A sample of the metal, provided by the implant company, can be taped to your arm to confirm. Ask your surgeon.

...: Could mean fatigue, are you sleeping 6h-8h every night? Do you wake up at the same time most days? Do you drink 3qts/water daily? Do you walk 30 minutes every day? If not, your body is tired and wants to sleep, so will have to be shaken, or shivered, to wake up. If you walk 30min daily, avoid fried & sugary food, drink 3qts water daily, you see the difference.

Neither: If it's a stone not much but medication and passing the stone will help. My condolences.
