Yes: I am assuming that you are talking about heating inside a home with wood in a fire place. If not properly drafted or the chimney is blocked the smoke may contain many noxious substances in your home that can adversely affect your lungs. There is also the threat of fire.

Wood fires: Without appropriate ventilation, wood fires for heating can lead to air pollution and health problems. Every year in phoenix we have "no burn" days because of inversion air layers. Your lungs like fresh air to breathe. If you're using a wood stove or other kind of fireplace, make sure your chimney is clean and the flue is open.
