See your doctor: When an iud is placed, its strings are left 1-2 cm protruding from the cervix so that you can feel them and be assured that the iud is still in place. If you cannot feel the strings, you should see your doctor to confirm the placement of the iud. In the meantime, use a backup form of birth control to be on the safe side in case it has been expelled.

Difficult to say: It's difficult to say that there is anything to be worried about. Certainly some light bleeding and cramping is expected after insertion for several days. The iud strings may just be out of your reach with your fingers or they could be adherent to part of the vaginal wall. It would be wise to follow up with the medical provider who inserted your iud to have matters checked out.

No ...but...: Scant bleeding is common and not a concern feeling the strings is helpful in proving that expulsion has not happened..But many women have difficulty learning how. Keep trying but if not successful see the inserting provider to confirm that it remains in place.

Just concerned: Please see the physician who inserted the iud to see it fell out or the string broke. Don't be worried but don't have unprotected intercourse until you have the iud checked.

IUD and bleeding: The iud makes the lining thin. If it's the first time using it, your body will have to adjust to it. It may make your cycles irregular or the iud may have been manipulated with the examination, if you are comfortable using the iud as a birth control method, i would monitor the bleeding and see your doctor if it continues to be irregular.
