Fungus: Athletes feet is a fungus in the skin. There are at least 35 pathological fungi that can cause athletes feet, and those 35 organisms are split up into 3 general catagories. If you have been on topical broard spectrum antifungals and the problem keeps on returning, try an antiperspirant to decrease foot sweating. If that doesn't work, go to your local podiatrist for cultures and/or biopsy and tx.

I should add...: Assuming the diagnosis is correct and it really is a fungus (not all itchy flaky rashes on the foot are from a fungus), fungal spores live for 30 days. You must keep treating your fungus for at least 30 days to get rid of it, even if it seems to clear up after only a few days of treatment, otherwise it will continue to come back.
