The cause?: Many cases of vitiligo is from an autoimmune process and as such you may need to get an evaluation by a dermatologist. Phototherapy with uvb-nb has been reported to be successful in some cases. I don't think sun exposure has much to do with it unless you get a third degree burn which damages the cells producing the pigment (melanin).
