See your dentist: With tooth pain, significant swelling that is not resolving in the infraorbital/canine fossa area after 5 doses of antibiotics, you should be re-evaluated by your dentist. Treatment options may include changing you to a different antibiotic, root canal therapy, incision and drainage of the abscess and/or possible removal of the tooth if indicated.

Bad timing: These antibiotics will control the infection in your mouth. It may take some time depending on the type of infection, location, and stage of infection. You may not have started the antibiotics soon enough for it to completely control the abcess. You may need to see the dentist to get a drain placed to reduce the swelling. Go back to get it examined.

Need dentist: Antibiotics will not cure a tooth abscess. The best you can hope for is some temporary relief. Get to a dentist for a cure.
