Trapped nerve: This statement is not every specific - probably a "pinched nerve". Firstly one has to see the MRI and decide if this is ameanable to pt, injections etc... Also one has to consider the extent of the examination to decide the best treatment options.

PT ; chiro: In addition to the wise words you have already heard, you might consider physical therapy and/or chiropractic. Sometimes massage therapy is helpful also. There are chinese pain patches that help, also chinese or western natural anti-inflammatories. If the gentleman has edema (swelling) in other areas, there may be edema in the nerve which makes them pinch. A diuretic from his doc may help.
