Gasping for air: I would urge you to obtain another opinion as your baby is obviously having a problem. You may need to find another doctor or specialist.

Respiratory problem : I am concerned that your 3 month old is waking up "gasping for air". This seems to suggest that she is having some sort of airway obstruction and/or cessation of breathing (apnea). The presence or absence of other symptoms (cough, wheezing, breathing pattern, vomiting) is important to note. I recommend you videotape these episodes and present it to your pediatrician.
