Stop the acid pump: Over the counter Omeprazole (prilosec otc) or Lansoprazole (preveacid) are both otc meds and would help stop the acid much better. Try for 7-10 days and see if any difference.

Other meds: Like zantac, (ranitidine) prevacid, tagamet. But as long as you still have the causes, it will be a problem like smoking. Follow these, go to bed at least 2 hours away from dinner, put the waist to head of the bed inclined up, avoid coffee, tea, soda, choco, citrus, milk, gassy food, and any nsaids particularly at night. You will improve if you follow the above, good luck.

Bad gerd: You may need to try different medications, e.g. Proton pump inhibitors like over the counter omeprazole, which may work a lot better. Also try not to eat after 7pm, avoid alcohol, do not smoke as this irritates stomach, try to place 6 inch blocks under head of bed posts so your upper body is on a slant so fluid from your stomach can not easily get into your throat. Evening meal should be small.
