Discuss with your MD: Fda warning in 2011 was celexa should not be used at doses higher than 40 mgm per day. It can cause prolongation of qt interval, which can lead to fatal changes to heart rhythm.Patients with underlying heart condition, and with low pottasium and magnesium are more at risk for this so consult your doctor if you have prolonged qt interval and low pot;magnesium. And if it is the right med for you to tak.

Probably OK.: It used to be that 60 mg/day was considered the maximum dose of celexa, (citalopram) but a few years ago the fda lowered it to 40 mg due to reports of sudden death due to a condition called prolonged qt syndrome. The details of this condition are too much to explain here, but 20 mg is probably safe. Ask your doctor for an ekg if you would like more assurance, as it will show if you have the condition.
