Yes: Blood tests do not diagnose gout. Finding urate crystals in joint fluid does. Failure to treat gout leads to irreversible joint damage, kidney damage and stones and arteriosclerosis. You husband is playing with fire. If he has gout he needs to be treated with daily Allopurinol to normalize the serum uric acid level and prevent these issues.
