You: Can use warm compresses, depending on the joint involved use stabilizers to minimize movement around the joint during movement, pt to strengthen the muscles around the joint and use of pain medications. Injections into the joint sometimes are helpful and also weight loss in obese people.

That said, taking care of your joints can probably make a difference. Exercise helps maintain strength and range of motion. Get up and move around because, for good or ill, you can't choose your parents!
