Crusty and yellow: Impetigo is a common bacterial skin infection and typically starts as a red spot that develops a yellow, crusty surface. The most common location is around the nostrils. Antibiotics are required to clear the infection.

Red spot with crusts: Check out this website for image : http://www.Patient.Co.Uk/health/impetigo.Htm small blisters develop at first. You may not see the blisters as they usually burst to leave scabby patches on the skin. Sometimes only one or two patches develop. They often look like moist, golden crusts stuck on to the skin. An area of redness (inflammation) may develop under each patch. Sometimes affected skin is just red and inflamed - especially if the 'crust' is picked or scratched off.

Depends on type: 1. Nonbullous, more common and contagious, superficial vesiculopustular infection (small rashes filled with clear liquid or pus) which opens and creats the honey-colored crusts on top. 2. Bullous, more serious type, bigger sac of liquid due to separation of the skin layer.
