See Endocrinologist: Sick euthyroid occurs in people with significant other illnesses. "significant" means renal failure, sepsis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel, etc. The "other illness" is usually obvious, not subtle. The change in thyroid hormones is a way for the body to slow down while you recover. Not sure how this "diagnosis" was made but you should see a board certified endocrinologist.
