Several reasons: Intermittent hearing loss may be due to incomplete blockage of the ear canal with wax, mild middle ear fluid that changes with position of the head, and intermittent tinnitus or ringing perceived in the ear. Another possibility is intermittent blockage of the eustachian tube. When you say deaf, that means that you lose all of your hearing. That is more serious and may vascular. See an ENT doc.
