Multifactorial: There are a number of medical conditions preexisting in the mother that can increase risk of iugr, including hypertension, lupus, kidney disease, and sickle cell; fetal conditions such as abnormal chromosomes; twins or more; infection, placental disorders, smoking, and poor diet, as well as history of iugr in a prior pregnancy.
