Help, what things can cause an ear ache other than an infection?

Hearing loss?: The first question that must be answered is do you have a hearing loss? If not and if the ear drum and ear canal are normal, then otalgia (ear ache) is not arising from the ear. The most common cause of ear ache in the absence of an ear infection arises from disorders of the jaw joint, jaw muscles and teeth.
