EMG/NCS: The best study to evaluate nerve injury is emg/ncs - nerve conduction study. These are preformed by a neurologist. It involves placing small needles and passing a small amount of current through them. Good luck.

Can diabetes cause peripheral nerve disorders?

Dr. Ankush Bansal
Internal Medicine 17 years experience
Yes: Diabetes very commonly causes a peripheral nerve disorder called peripheral neuropathy in which their is a pins-and-needles sensation in the legs and arms in a glove-and-stocking distribution. Control of diabetes reduces this risk and reduces the severity if neuropathy has already become apparent. If you have diabetes, your doctor should do a quick 1-2 minute check for neuropathy at every visit.

Common: Peripheral neuropathy (burning, tingling or numbness in hands or feet) is a relatively common finding in celiac disease and may predate other manifestations. Of concern, although it may 'just' be associated with nutritional deficiences, it 'can be' associated with lymphoma. Please be evaluated.
