Different ways: While Cyclosporine is a very important medication used in the transplant field and in different rheumatologic and autoimmune diseases it sometimes may damage the kidneys by causing constriction of the vessels inside them. If you are concerned about potential side effects of this medication you should ask your prescribing physician about it.

CNI: All calcineurin inhibitors (CNI) --including cyclosporine and tacrolimus-- are potentially nephrotoxic. Although they are widely used as an anti-rejection medication after an organ transplantation, their blood level needs to be monitored closely. If the levels are excessively high, it can cause vasoconstriction of the blood vessels that supply the kidneys and lead to acute kidney injury.
