CNI: All calcineurin inhibitors (CNI) --including cyclosporine and tacrolimus-- are potentially nephrotoxic. Although they are widely used as an anti-rejection medication after an organ transplantation, their blood level needs to be monitored closely. If the levels are excessively high, it can cause vasoconstriction of the blood vessels that supply the kidneys and lead to acute kidney injury.
