Ischemia: One of the ways Cyclosporine causes kidney damage is by causing vasoconstriction of the renal vasculature, thereby reducing blood flow to the kidneys. This results in ischemic injury.

Direct injury : Cyclosporine can cause renal dysfunction by inducing changes in blood flow within the kidney leading to decreased blood flow (ischemia). The drug can also cause chronic injury to the filtration units in the kidney (glomerulus) and thickening (fibrosis).
