Ear or TMJ: It's possible you have an ear infection so see an ENT physician. Another possibility is a problem with your tmf, or temporomandibular joint. Occassionally people wake up with this pain as a result of clenching the teeth during sleeping. See an oral surgeon after the ENT visit.

Ear pain: My be from air infection, mastoiditis, TMJ, or infected tooth/gums that are causing a lymph node to swell. In other words, your body is telling you to consider seeing your Dentist and/or your Physician for examination. As multiple problems can cause this type of pain, would be wise to be examined by both.
