Different: Nurse practitioner has a nursing degree and then master degree to become a np. Physicians go to medical school to get doctor's degree, then residency. Much longer way!

Time in training: Pediatrician MD or DO= 3-4 yrs of college + 4 yrs of med school+ 3 yrs of pediatric residency. NP=4 years of nursing/degree+2-3 yrs of further training. When you look at training, the intensity and diversity of experience involved is very different. Less training may diminish ones ability to pick up less common but worrisome diagnoses.
