A member asked:

After a fusion surgery, how does bone growth know how far to go before stopping? like, how does it know to not leave the previous disc space?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fusion surgery: The bone that is used for the fusion is not placed in the disc space rather along the outside of area of the spine so the disc space is not affect. When using the patient's own bone there is rarely a problem with the bone overgrowing into other spaces.
