Prevention: Not being able to sleep may indicated sleep problems that can be life shortening or life threatening. The only way to know if there are serious problems is with an overnight sleep test. I encourage you to seek help. Medications like Ambien (zolpidem) may only address your symptoms and not fix the underlying untreated conditions.

Ambien (zolpidem): Drugs.Com is a great resource for information about drugs like ambien (zolpidem). Ambien (zolpidem) is a habit-forming sleep medicine that can be used intermittently, but you really need to look into why you're having sleep disturbance in the first place. Bipolar disorder, for instance, can cause insomnia -- and Ambien (zolpidem) will not hold it off for long without stabilizing mood. Hoping you're working with a psychiatrist.
