A member asked:

I have a hypertensive patient who states that every time he takes a hot shower his bp elevates to the mid 160's over 90's. any ideas on why?

Unusual: Generally exposure to excessive hot temperatures lowers the blood pressure. Perhaps the rise in b p could be due to vigorous arm work during washing and drying yourself. If this is so, hisr b p should quickly return to normal.

An idea: A good hypothesis? Effects of temperature on blood pressure sarah gardner, david hoch, bryan lafonte "blood pressures after exposure to the hot water did lower, but after, they rose initially. This resulted in a higher average blood pressure for the hot water results than the room temperature water results.".
