UTI?: One of the panels on a urine dipstick measures for the presence of leukocyte esterase. The leukocyte esterase test is positive when there are white blood cells in the urine. The most common reason for a positive leukocyte esterase is a bacterial urinary tract infection.

Depends: Specimens obtained as a "squat and pee" exit the bladder, rebound off labial tissue, enter the vagina and leak back out. This brings stray material into the specimen. WBC's on a squat pee in a 3yo can be normal. If the test shows a positive nitrite, I'd worry more about a UTI. Catheter specimens or those having the girl spread the labia and pee like a boy are not as likely to be contaminated
