Variable by gender: Most quit between 15-18 or after the long bone growth centers close with bone maturity. Bone maturity is assessed by studying growth centers in the wrist and hand. As they close, the bone centers throughout the body will have also closed and further growth will not occur. This could be at a chronological age from 15-20, depending on genetics and hormonal influences.
