sometimes when i lay down on my left side i feel a second of shortness of breath and goes away. doesn't happen often, but should i get it checked out?

Shortness of breath: Yes. You need to be checked. Get a chest x ray, ekg and echo cardiogram to rule cardiac or lung problems.
