Cough causes cough: It very well probably was a URI weeks ago and at this point what you're left with is lungs that are so coughed out that there's inflammation down there causing you to cough... Which causes inflammation causing more cough, and you get the point. So, if you're no longer sick and just having the chest noises and cough, you would likely benefit from some prescription cough suppression.
