A/W Dr. Munshower.: Cutting may feel pleasurable for a number of reasons. If a person is suffering from severe emotional pain - physical pain can distract them - thus elevating their mood. If a person feels completely numb emotionally - cutting can make them feel alive. Some people feel the need to punish themselves - cutting can fit that bill.
