Treat diabetes: The usual treatment for acanthosis nigricans (velvety skin spots) is to treat the underlying disease, that is diabetes and obesity, if the patient is obese. The better the control of blood sugar and the less obesity, the higher the likelihood that the acanthosis will be lessened. There are specific treatments, for which you should see a dermatologist.
